Located just a 40 minute drive from Wellington, Raumati Beach Kapiti Coast and offers a fun-filled day for the whole family. Here are just a few of the things I got up to with the kids when we went to Raumati Beach one Sunday.
Raumati beach – just 40 minutes from Wellington
Raumati Beach
No trip to Raumati Beach would be complete without a stroll along the expanse of sand at the beach. We spent our time building sand castles and trying to dam up the gently flowing stream which carves a small channel out into the sea. The stream also provided a safe paddling place away from the waves which is perfect for young children. Feeling brave, I even ventured into the sea for a short, refreshing swim and was pleasantly surprised by the temperature of the water.
Marine Gardens
Located just across from the main beach entrance is Marine Gardens which offers a large children’s playground complete with flying fox. The various areas offered a range of swings, slides and climbing equipment with something to suit all age ranges. There is also a brand new water park (splash pad zone) which kept the children cool and entertained for well over an hour. As we visited on a Sundays there was even a miniature railway operating which took the kids and us adults on a short ride around the gardens.
Eateries
The aptly named Raumati Shopping Village includes a number of cafes and restaurants but we chose to have a quick beer, with soft drinks for the kids, at the Waterfront Bar and Restaurant. Located right on the beach, it offered great views and a pleasant atmosphere.
So next time you’re looking to spend some time with the family on a Sunday afternoon, I highly recommend heading out to Raumati Beach.
