Proposed new location for the new Movie Museum in Wellington

Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor have finally agreed on building a new world class movie museum in central Wellington, New Zealand. This is good news for the Wellington community as they believe (along with the local tourist board ‘Absolutely Positively Wellington’) it will draw in thousands more overseas tourists as well as visitors from around New Zealand. Both ‘movie-men’ (Jackson & Taylor) have plenty of memorabilia from films and projects they have worked on over the last twenty years. This new movie museum will be added to the already popular Weta Cave and Weta Workshop out in the Miramar suburb and will attract film enthusiasts from all over the world.

According to the Museum project Director George Hickton, the site would draw from one of the most valuable collections of Hollywood memorabilia in the world, featuring thousands of priceless designs, props, models and set pieces. Stunning exhibits will include the much loved, world famous Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flying car from the movie with the same title.

The new site is reportedly going to be directly opposite Te Papa Museum and is within walking distance to the main sites of Wellington such as Courtenay Place, Cuba street and the waterfront.
