Promising magic, fun and wonder the utterly unique Wellington Just So Festival will be a weekend-long family arts camping experience you will never forget. This family friendly event will be packed with elements of high quality literature, art, theatre, comedy, circus and dance. Due to take place 23-25th February 2018 the festival allows children of all ages to magically transport themselves to a wonderland. Children’s activities include pillow fights, midnight feasts and stories around the camp-fire. Thrown into the mix are hidden retreats, costume competitions, artisan food, live music and bush-craft.
At one with nature – the perfect family festival
This family-orientated festival is not entirely new, having already run for eight highly successful years in the UK. Buzzing Wellington and its surrounds already have a very impressive calendar of annual events but there is always room for more. This is especially true when they come in the guise of the area’s newest exciting outdoor festival for all the family. Thanks to Kaly Newman and her team, the Wellington Just So Festival will be the start of much more to come in the future.
The essential core of it all revolves around the concept of the wonderfully ridiculous Tribal Tournament. Choose your animal tribe, dress up accordingly and then compete in a series of mischief-making and mayhem-filled games. Earning your golden pebbles will ultimately decide which tribe emerges the triumphant winner. Come festival Sunday you join with your tribe to take part in the fun-filled Tribal Parade. The venue of Upper Hutt’s Kaitoke Regional Park for this children’s family festival is also something of the extra-special kind. Already magical enough to have been chosen as the setting for the magnificent elven kingdom of Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kaitoke Park offers an ideal location. Tranquil, naturally stunning and recognised as NZ’s Outstanding Park by the NZ Recreation Association. The rainforest park is also a perfect place to allow the world of imagination to come flooding in. As family-friendly ways to spend the sunny weekends of summer go it gets no better than this.
The first NZ Wellington Just So Festival has plenty going for it besides its ability to create wondrous worlds and to bring the forest alive with sounds of song, dance and laughter. This not-for-profit festival truly is a totally inclusive event for all, going above and beyond the concept of what these words typically mean. In the UK, Just So has been recognised as a pioneer in its approach. It’s ethics regarding accessibility ensure every kind of need is provided for while facilitating a safe environment for enjoyment and participation for all. Another tick in the Just So Festival’s credentials column is their committed attitude to sustainability and to ensure minimal impact is made on the environment.
With more than 100 artists and performers lined up for this family event, the participation capacity has been limited to an intimate 3000. This number is designed to maximise safety and enjoyment while enhancing the full the element of magic. With options for boutique camping for any who prefer a few home comforts, Just So’s ticket prices include all entertainment and programmed events within the New Zealand festival site.
In short, this event is not just simply a valuable addition to the festival and annual kids’ events calendar of Wellington but promises to bring a whole new meaning to the phrase summer magic. Click here to book your tickets and have an amazing and memorable weekend!
